DILL PICKLES - CHARLES JOHNSON (1906)
This was one of Johnson's more popular rags, and his own particular favorite. The "three over four" motif of the A section was a form of structural syncopation, a basis for many popular rags of the era, most notably the famous "12th Street Rag". This rag is typical of Johnson's work, a nice balance between the simple `folk rag' elements and the more sophisticated melodic writing of the C section.
